Vilmar International SA, is an independent marine insurance broker company established in late 2009 by a team of well known and experienced insurance and claims adjusters in shipping.

By building a system of trust, high standards of service and strong business relationship with our clients and working closely with various providers from the local and the international insurance market, we are able to provide a wide range of marine insurance products including covers for, but not limited to, Protection and Indemnity, Hull and Machinery, War Risk, Loss of Hire and Claims Consultancy

Our Team

Victoria Liouta

Attorney-at-Law graduate of the Kapodistrian Law University of Athens, Greece with a Master’s degree (LL.M) in Maritime Law from the University of Southampton.

She has work experience as in house lawyer since 1992 in various shipping companies in Greece during which she attained proficiency in marine insurance, claims handling and corporate matters. In 2007 she has worked as claims executive of the American P&I Club as well as Manager of the American Club’s Greek office till late 2009 when Vilmar was established.

An accreditation as  International Arbitrator, Mediator and Trainer of Mediators are the most important qualifications she has earned through the years

She is a Fellow of CIArb and  a member of ICC, CEDR, LMAA, Greek Union of Mediators, Piraeus Association of Maritime Arbitrators, WISTA Hellas and Union International des Avocats.

Raphael Papaspyropoulos

Attorney-at-law, admitted to practice law in Victoria, Australia, graduate of the master’s degree (LL.M) in International Maritime Law from Swansea University, Wales, UK.

Experienced in a highly litigious environment having practiced in law firms engaging in predominantly commercial and civil litigation including family, employment, property as well as estate planning and real estate matters. Priorly, he had obtained his Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Melbourne and his LLB at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia.

Raphael has joined Vilmar as a Claims Executive following his graduation from LLM to engage in resolution of shipping disputes, marine insurance claims and aspires to achieve such through a balanced calibration of proactive (loss prevention) and reactive steps to minimize clients and insurance losses. Further areas of interest include automated vessels and related technologies and their impact on insurance and admiralty losses (collisions, general average, etc).

Maria – Louisa Papadopoulou

Following her graduation from the University of Sussex with a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Management studies, she pursued a Master’s degree at CASS Business School in Shipping, Trade & Finance, from which she graduated in 2020. She also holds a Certificate in Private Equity and Finance from Bocconi University in Milan, Italy.

Maria-Louisa has gained experience in the Marine Insurance sector through her internship at the American P&I Club, in London, and she has worked as a consultant in Marine Insurance yachts. She firstly joined Vilmar International SA in November 2020 as a Marine Insurance Technician and currently she is a Marine Insurance and Financial Executive and studies for the CII Diploma. She also wishes to attend an AI in Insurance course through CII.

She speaks English and French.

Anna Hirbou

Anna is a qualified Customs Broker (Ministry of Finance – Greece) and has had extensive experience undertaking commercial secretary duties including but not limited to preparation of market, sales and business data and analytics. Anna has joined Vilmar as Administration Manager.
